Unity of Edmonton
We are about the study of universal spiritual laws and living in accord with the principles of Love and Truth as taught by Unity, based principally on the teachings of Jesus Christ. We see Jesus as our brother and way-shower who set an example for us to emulate and follow. We believe every person is an expression of the Divine and so we endeavour to call forth and honour the Divine in one another.
Our Purpose is union with God through Celebration and Spiritual Education.
The Cornerstones of our teachings are
metaphysics (The systematic study of the science of Being; that which transcends the physical),
mysticism (The practice of the presence of God; the life of prayer that results in intuitive knowledge and experience of God),
meditation (Continuous and contemplative thought; to dwell mentally on anything; realizing the reality of the Absolute; a steady effort of the mind to know God; man’s spiritual approach to God. The purpose of meditation is to expand the consciousness Christward; to bring into realization divine Truth; to be transformed in spirit, soul, and body by the renewing of the mind) and
mindfulness (Mindfulness means maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment, through a gentle, nurturing lens. Mindfulness also involves acceptance, meaning that we pay attention to our thoughts and feelings without judging them—without believing, for instance, that there’s a “right” or “wrong” way to think or feel in a given moment. When we practice mindfulness, our thoughts tune into what we’re sensing in the present moment rather than rehashing the past or imagining the future.)
Our values:
Community/Family: As a loving community/family, we deeply value and celebrate each person’s inherent worth and beauty.
Truth: Through open minds and hearts, we continually grow in our awareness and understanding of Truth.
Integrity: In harmony with Spirit, we choose to express our highest perception of Truth.
Prayer: In faith we pray, acknowledging the presence of God in each person and affirming the highest good for all.
Service: We joyfully serve God, one another, and the global community by sharing our gifts and talents.
Our Commitment is to provide a nurturing environment that inspires the emergence of the authentic self.
The teachings in Unity bring together ancient wisdom with new interpretations of what it means to be alive and human. Unity inspires different ways to think about the force of love and intelligence that many people call God.
The Five Unity Principles
Unity teachings are based on universal spiritual principles that run like a thread through the world’s religions.
1. God is all there is and present everywhere. This is the force of love and wisdom that underlies all of existence.
2. Human beings are divine at their core and therefore inherently good.
3. Thoughts have creative power to determine events and attract experiences.
4. Prayer and meditation keep us aligned with the one great power in the universe.
5. It is not enough to understand spiritual teachings. We must live the Truth we know.
